Reporting To: Editorial Manager
Key Stakeholders: Editorial Manager, Communications Director, Committee and Project Managers
Purpose of the Role:
To ensure the quality and consistency of all published materials by maintaining editorial standards and brand identity across technical publications. The role involves reviewing, editing, and supporting the development of high-quality content tailored to technical audiences, particularly within the energy and engineering sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic

Support and embed the organisation’s communications and publications strategy through consistent editorial practices.
Editorial & Technical
-
Apply and refine editorial guidelines and house style across all publications

Understand and adapt content for various technical and non-technical audiences
-
Edit and finalise materials, including copyediting, developmental editing, and rewrites as needed

Ensure clarity, consistency, and readability of complex, technical content

Manage publication timelines to ensure timely launches

Advise and guide contributors on transforming drafts into final, publishable documents

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage project expectations and schedules
-
Assist in maintaining internal and external digital content libraries

Provide editorial support as needed in the absence of the Editorial Manager
Collaboration & Influence

Build strong working relationships with subject matter experts and internal teams

Contribute to a collaborative editorial environment, ensuring high-quality outputs
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or a related field
-
Professional experience in editing and copywriting
-
Proven ability to work with and edit to a style guide

Experience collaborating on publication projects

Ability to translate technical information into accessible content for a range of audiences

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Master’s degree in a relevant field

Familiarity with multiple editorial style guides

Experience in the oil and gas or related technical sectors

Proficiency with InDesign or other desktop publishing tools

Ability to apply qualitative judgement to editorial work and clearly explain editorial decisions
