The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join a boutique, growth-focused communications agency working with clients across asset and wealth management, FinTech, and other financial services. The Senior Account Director will lead strategic client programs, manage high-profile client relationships, and support agency growth initiatives within a collaborative team environment.
Based in New York, my client combines an entrepreneurial spirit with a global reach, offering the chance to work on impactful, integrated communications programs across media relations, thought leadership, content creation, crisis management, and social media.
The Role
As a Senior Account Director, you will play a pivotal role in both account management and agency growth. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, providing strategic guidance on complex client matters and leading the implementation of communications programs with measurable impact. You’ll also mentor junior team members, drive business development efforts, and help shape agency operations and culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, providing expert counsel on communication strategies and overseeing the smooth execution of multi-channel programs.
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Partner with senior colleagues to develop holistic, integrated communications plans that leverage media relations, thought leadership, social media, and content development to achieve client objectives.
- Team Management and Mentorship: Lead and inspire account teams, providing guidance and mentorship to junior members to foster their growth and development.
- New Business Development: Proactively source and drive new business opportunities, contributing to proposals and pitches.
- Content and Media Relations: Oversee high-quality content creation, including press releases, bylines, and social media posts, while building relationships with journalists and identifying key media opportunities for clients.
- Operational Support and Culture Building: Collaborate on agency marketing activities, internal processes, and initiatives that contribute to a positive and collaborative corporate culture.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant communications experience in an agency, including at least 3+ years of experience in the financial services sector.
- Proven expertise in managing client accounts, developing strategic communications programs, and delivering measurable results.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations and content development, with established relationships in financial services media.
- A proactive, results-driven attitude with a passion for current affairs, news, and the media industry.
- Experience in business development and the ability to mentor junior staff members effectively.
Preferred Skills
- Crisis communications experience and a strong network within the financial media landscape.
- Cross-cultural experience and a demonstrated understanding of global financial markets.
