Location: Huyten, Merseyside

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

About the Role

On behalf of a high-quality care and support services business, we are urgently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial operations, with a strong emphasis on payroll.

This is a 3-month contract with the potential to become permanent. The role requires an immediate start, so please only apply if you are available to begin straight away.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update monthly payroll records for all new starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
  • Process and submit monthly payroll, including statutory year-end returns and P60s.
  • Prepare payroll reports summarising earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, and sickness.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing relevant information.
  • Submit P45s to HM Revenue & Customs for all starters and leavers.
  • Administer statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SAP.
  • Raise monthly sales invoices and monitor customer accounts to ensure timely payment.
  • Ensure supplier invoices are processed and paid promptly.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and bank accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Process journals and post transactions to the general ledger.
  • Manage the company pension scheme and submit monthly data to NEST.
  • Liaise with external accountants and provide all relevant year-end information.
  • Contribute to the improvement of financial and payroll systems and processes.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience in a bookkeeping and payroll role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
  • Experience with accounting and payroll software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
