Location: Huyten, Merseyside
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

About the Role
On behalf of a high-quality care and support services business, we are urgently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial operations, with a strong emphasis on payroll.
This is a 3-month contract with the potential to become permanent. The role requires an immediate start, so please only apply if you are available to begin straight away.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update monthly payroll records for all new starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
- Process and submit monthly payroll, including statutory year-end returns and P60s.
- Prepare payroll reports summarising earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, and sickness.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing relevant information.
- Submit P45s to HM Revenue & Customs for all starters and leavers.
- Administer statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SAP.
- Raise monthly sales invoices and monitor customer accounts to ensure timely payment.
- Ensure supplier invoices are processed and paid promptly.
- Reconcile supplier statements and bank accounts on a monthly basis.
- Process journals and post transactions to the general ledger.
- Manage the company pension scheme and submit monthly data to NEST.
- Liaise with external accountants and provide all relevant year-end information.
- Contribute to the improvement of financial and payroll systems and processes.
Person Specification
- Proven experience in a bookkeeping and payroll role.
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Experience with accounting and payroll software.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
