Job Description

Role: Freelance Editor - Engineering Firm
Location: Fully remote
Reporting To: Editorial Manager
Hourly rate: £18.00 - £21.00 per hour, DOE

Tiger has partnered with a well established and reputable engineering/safety firm who are seeking a freelance content editor to join them on a project basis. The objective is to ensure the quality and consistency of all published materials by maintaining editorial standards and brand identity across technical publications, in line with internal branding/style guides. The role involves reviewing, editing, and supporting the development of high-quality content tailored to technical audiences, particularly within the energy and engineering sectors. Not only will you be editing typos/formatting but you will need to ensure the messaging is accurate and aligned to the business' goals and objectives - this is a strategic role.

This is a completely remote role. You will need your own equipment (laptop & access to MS Office Suite).

What You'll Do:

  • Support and embed the organisation’s communications and publications strategy through consistent editorial practices.

  • Apply and refine editorial guidelines and house style across all publications

  • Understand and adapt content for various technical and non-technical audiences

  • Edit and finalise materials, including copyediting, developmental editing, and rewrites as needed

  • Ensure clarity, consistency, and readability of complex, technical content

  • Manage publication timelines to ensure timely launches

  • Advise and guide contributors on transforming drafts into final, publishable documents

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage project expectations and schedules

  • Assist in maintaining internal and external digital content libraries

  • Provide editorial support as needed in the absence of the Editorial Manager

  • Build strong working relationships with subject matter experts and internal teams

  • Contribute to a collaborative editorial environment, ensuring high-quality outputs

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or a related field

  • Professional experience in editing and copywriting - ideally freelance

  • Proven ability to work with and edit to a style guide

  • Experience within the engineering/energy sectors highly regarded but not essential
  • Ability to translate technical information into accessible content for a range of audiences

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to transform rough drafts into polished content
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Skilled in assessing tone, voice, and consistency within written material

  • Strong organisational and planning abilities

  • Confident communicator, capable of delivering clear and constructive editorial feedback
