Temp to Perm Solicitor
Job Description
Newly Qualified Solicitor (Family Law, Temp → Possibly Permanent)
Location: Central London
Working pattern: Hybrid. Approx. 3 days per week in office + remote working. Working hours 09:00–17:00.
Remuneration: £30,000–£35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Role Overview
We are seeking a newly qualified Solicitor with a genuine interest and foundation in Family Law to join our team on a temporary basis, with the potential for permanence depending on performance and business needs.
As a Solicitor within the Family (and possibly Divorce) team you will:
-
Manage your own caseload in family law matters — taking client instructions, advising clients, preparing and progressing cases, and liaising with clients and other stakeholders.
-
Progress matters from initial instructions through to resolution, ensuring compliance, deadlines, documentation, and professional standards.
-
Deliver a high level of client service, empathising with clients who may be facing difficult or stressful personal circumstances (e.g. separation, divorce, children/custody, welfare issues).
-
Work collaboratively with colleagues across other practice areas when cases have overlaps (e.g. welfare, housing, immigration, etc.), or client needs extend beyond strictly family law.
-
Maintain accurate case files, time-recording and client records in accordance with firm procedures.
-
Communicate clearly and sensitively with clients, many of whom may come from diverse backgrounds and may require supportive legal advice.
-
Contribute to the development of the practice — sharing knowledge, supporting other team members, and helping to maintain the firm’s reputation for tailored client service.
Candidate Requirements / Person Specification
-
Qualified Solicitor (newly qualified or early PQE), with capacity to handle family law matters.
-
Demonstrable interest in family law (and related areas such as divorce, welfare, housing, where relevant).
-
Client-centred mindset, with empathy, sensitivity, and professionalism when dealing with vulnerable clients or potentially emotional cases.
-
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to build rapport with clients from various backgrounds.
-
Good organisational skills; able to manage multiple cases, maintain file management and compliance.
-
Comfortable working in a small firm environment — flexible, collaborative, and able to support where needed.
-
Familiarity with standard legal IT tools / case-management / Microsoft Office (or willingness to learn).
-
Able to work on a hybrid basis (office + remote), and commit to the required office days and working hours.
What the Role Offers
-
A stepping-stone role at a small but diverse legal firm — opportunity to work across multiple areas, gaining broad exposure (Family, Welfare, Housing, Immigration, etc.).
-
Hybrid working: a mix of remote and in-office working for work-life balance.
-
Transparent salary range (£30–35k) with clarity on expectations.
-
Opportunity for permanency — the role may transition from temporary to permanent depending on performance and business need.
-
Supportive environment dealing with real-world client issues — good for solicitors who value meaningful work and client-focused practice.
